OpenSuSe 11.0 help

Post by Lonewolf on Sun Feb 01 2009, 22:18

okay guys i just bout a magazine from Barnes and Noble called Linux+ DVD. it came with OpenSuSe 11.0. i installed it on a 40 gig hdd as a dual boot with my win XP. everything went smoothly and installed correctly (as far as i know). as most of you know i love linux but not very linux savvy.

okay so OpenSuSe boots up and starts doin some terminal stuff. then it just STOPS! i read all the script and one of the things said " Failed to boot because NFTS windows is primary" or something of the sort. if any of you can help me id appreciate it a whole lot.

Try to reinstall Linux. It was OpenSuSE and not SuSE Linux Enterprise?
Technically it should boot.
If it still won't boot after you have reinstalled it, please open cfdisk in a terminal on the live CD (Or GRUB) and post a screenshot here.
I have a feeling that you might need to first delete all partitions of the harddrive and then repartition it with the first partition being SuSE Linux and the second being Windows XP. Then install SuSE and AFTER doing so install XP. But please post the output from the above mentioned first.
Oh, and in a terminal, run Gedit (Or Kate or whatever depending what version of OpenSuSE you have, KDE or GNOME) and open /boot/grub/menu.lst and post it here.

Nope, the only solution is to delete Windows XP and reinstall it after you install openSuSE. openSuSE is great, but it is tricky. I found Ubuntu to be smoother.

Linux Distribution. And yes you have.
Unless you live under a rock and don't even own a cellphone you might not have tried Linux. This server runs Linux, 99% of all cellphones on the market runs Linux.
You decide. Linux is the most flexible software available.
